ZAHRA KARINA
Actress and fashion model

In my possession are three large black folders with 'Photographs by Landseer' printed in large gold lettering on the front flaps. Over the years the contents have been rearranged both by myself and presumably my mother. The first holds a number of, mostly large black edged, studio photographs of Zahra in various outfits. The second, contains photographs of various sizes, including reproductions of her portrait, scenes from plays and originals of those reproduced in her newspaper cuttings. The photographs date from the late nineteen thirties. The folder also contains a picture of her as a baby, two as a teenager and three of her father and grandfather. The third folder now contains my own artwork which is not reproduced here.
Julian André Rawes, March 2010.

ZAHRA KARINA.
On the reverse is-: FROM SHEEP FARMER TO OPERA SINGER
Alfred Butler O'Shea the Irish-Australian tenor who was at one time a sheep farmer in Australian Bush, gave a recital at the Grotrian Hall last night. It was only after hearing Dame Melba that he decided to become a singer and was fortunate enough to be heard by Lord Dunsany who was so struck with his voice that he sent him to Italy and paid for his musical education. O'Shea has since sung with Melba at the same theatre where he was first inspired by her voice.

P.S. A striking fashion warn by Miss Zahra Karina, an American film actress, inspired by the Spanish Mantilla.
