| Mary Eliza Bailey née Rawes, 1863-1956, the wife of Richard Bailey of Corryong, Australia, at one time owned this bible. No description of the bible or its age has survived and it is now considered lost. Margaret Elizabeth Owens, the granddaughter of George Maxwell Bailey, the son of Mary and Richard, past to me the knowledge of its existence in 1982. It is believed that the entries were written after the marriage of Mary Eliza and Richard in 1887. A copy of the entries was made by George Maxwell Bailey. The bible passed to a sister of George and it was subsequently donated to 'The College of the Bible' in Victoria. Margaret's father attempted to trace its present location without success. The following family material was sent to me by Margaret Owens in 1982. It is understood that the basis for these records were the entries from the bible and indeed the style of the material suggests that this is the case. Other details however clearly derive from other sources, consequently it difficult to ascertain the bible's original entries. (Bailey Line) |

Notes:- The ages of William and Jennet are thought to have come from the bible. There is reason to believe however that these are incorrect. William was buried at Crosby 19th February 1833 aged 88. Jennet was baptised at the same place 12th August 1754. They were married at Crosby 30th April 1778. Without carrying out any research, I question the London burial place of Eleanor Rawes in 1845. Should this be read as 'Bunwell Fields Cemetery', a major London nonconformist cemetery. |
