CENSUS ENUMERATIONS

RAWES CENSUS
The UK Census (England and Wales) has been carried out on a regular basis since 1841, there were previous census but 1841 is the first major national one to give detailed information about the individual. There are seperate census for Scotland and Ireland. The US census will be added at a later date.

This is a long term project to gather together all census entries for the name Rawes/Raws/Rawse. This would not have been possible without access to the Internet sites of 'FIND MY PAST' and 'ANCESTRY.COM' . The first census to be trackled was the 1911 Census, carried out on 2nd April 1911. Every census asked different questions and generally, as the years ago by, more questions were asked. The addition to the 1911 Census was the number of years the individual has been married.

To use this database material as a finding aid, an additional column called 'Line' has been added. This is to indicate to which grouping this household is assumed to belong.

  1. ID: Database reference number.
  2. DATE: Date on which the census took place.
  3. SHIRE: The County or state.
  4. CIVIL PARISH: The administration district of the census.
  5. ADDRESS: The address has been arranged by town first, followed by house/street etc.
  6. FORENAME: As read - the material is arranged by forename.
  7. SURNAME: In most cases this will be Rawes. Variations of the can be enumerater error or indicate a genuine variant.
  8. RELATION: The individual designated 'head' is the head of the household. All other persons are referred to as related (or not) to the head.
  9. AGE: As read.
  10. WHERE BORN: Place and county or state. The UK 1841 Census only indicated inside or outside a particular county.
  11. The 'f' at the beginning of a group indicates that the 'Line' is of the family descended from William & Isabella Rawes of Wetsleddale, Shap, Westmorland, married 1736.
  12. ORIGINAL: Where available, this can be used to see the original enumeraters page.
