Clay Hill Janry 24th 1843.

My dear Sir,
My Sister & I were much
rejoiced this morning to receive
a letter from you as it is a proof
that you are really better than
you have been for some time
which we feared was not the
case. My Sister not hearing
from Mrs Hodgson when she
wrote to acquaint you with
the sad event of our dear Brother's
death which has left us very
lonely & desolate, but most
thankful in the hope that he
is now in eternal rest & glory.
So many events have happened
to weaken my nerves & make
me very forgetful that altho' I
perfectly recollect receiving the mash[?]
of your kind remembrance in
a sheet of your writing about
some [--]ns & Roman remains &
have the paper in the envelope
with your kind inquiries yet
