This Indenture made the sixth Day of February in the seventeenth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord
George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so / forth
and in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy seven Between Thomas Greaves of Swindale
in the parish of Shap in the County of Westmorland Yeoman of the one part and Gerard Raws of Mardale in parish and
county / aforesaid Yeoman of the other part Witnesseth that the said Thomas Greaves for and in consideration
of the sum of Three Hundred and Seventy Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to him in hand well
and truly paid / or secured to be paid by the said Gerard Raws before the Execution of these Presents (the receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged) hath granted bargained sold aliened surrendered and confirmed and by these
Presents Doth grant bargain sell aliene / surrender and confirm unto the said Gerard Raws his Heirs and
Assigns All that the the said Thomas Greaves's whole messuage and tenement late Wilkinson's and Hoggart's (whereof
he was possessed as the execution of these / Presents) situate lying and being at Swindale Head in the parish of
Shap and County of Westmorland aforesaid and held of and under the Worshipful Edward Hasell Esqr Lord of the Manor
of Thornthwaite otherwise Bampton / Patrick by payment of the yearly fine-certain Rent of Nineteen Shillings and
one Penny and two Pence Green-hue And a Farm Hen and half a Farm Hen Yearly and every Year that is to say Namely
One Hen / Yearly and every Year for that his Messuage and Tenement purchased of William Wilkinson late of Swindale
and one Hen every other Year or half Hen Yearly and every Year for that his Housestead and Garden at Blake Beck /
lately purchased of John Hoggart of Swindale aforesaid and which are now in the Possession of the said James
Greaves his under tenents or assigns together with all and singular the Dwelling-house, Out-houses, Barns, /
Byars, Stables, Hedges, Fences, Walls, Ways, Wells, Waters, Water Courses, Ditches, Garths, Gardens, Orchards,
Arable Lands, Meadows, Pastures, Moors, Mosses, Commons, Commons of Pasture, and Turbary, Easements, Profits,
Privileges, Advantages, / and Appurtenances whatsoever unto the said Premises belonging or to all or any Part
thereof in any wise appertaining And the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders Rents Issues and
Profits / of all and singular the said Premises And all his the said Thomas Greaves's Right Title Interest
Property Claim and Demand whatsoever of in and to the same and to every Part thereof As also all / Deeds,
Admittances, Evidences, and writings in the Custody or Power of him the said Thomas Greaves, touching or
concerning the Title of the said Premises and any Part thereof To have and to Hold the said / Premises with all
and singular their Appurtenances unto the said Gerard Raws his Heirs and Assigns according to the ancient Custom
of the said Manor of Thornthwaite to and for his and their own sole use and / Benefit and to for no other Use
Intent or Purpose whatsoever Yielding and Paying therefore Yearly and every Year unto the Lord of
the said Manor his Heirs and Assigns the said Yearly Rent and all other / Dues, Duties, Suits and Services
thereore due at the several Times and Terms usual And also paying Yearly and every Year unto the Hon'ble
Sir James Lowther Baronet his Heirs or Assigns the Sum of Eleven / Pence being a prescription in lieu of Tithe
Corn and Hay therefore due and accustomed And the said Thomas Greaves for himself his Heirs Executors
Administrators and Assigns doth covenant promise and agree to / and with the said Gerard Raws his Heirs and Assigns
by these Presents that he hath in himself good Right full Power and sufficient Authority in the Law to grant sell
and convey all and every the above granted / Premises And that he the said Gerard Raws his Heirs and
Assigns shall and may from time to time and at all times hereafter peacably and quietly have hold occupy and
possess and enjoy all and singular / the said Premises with their Appurtenances without the lawful Let Suit
Trouble Hindrance Eviction Molestation of him the said Thomas Greaves his Heirs or Assigns or any other Person or
Persons whomsoever / lawfully claiming or to claim by from or under him them or any of them And that free
and clear and freely and clearly acquitted exonerated and discharged of from and against all former and [--?] [--?]
/ Grants Bargains Sales Leases Dowers Widow Rights Mortgages Titles Rents Fines Taxes Arrears of Rents Fines Taxes
Impositions and Incumbrances whatsoever, the said yearly Rent and other Dues Duties and / Services hereafter to
become due for and in Respect thereof only excepted and aforeprized And all that he the said Thomas Greaves
and his Heirs shall all and will from Time to Time and at all Times hereafter / upon the lawful Request and at the
proper Costs and Charges in the Law of the said Gerard Raws his Heirs and Assigns make do levy execute and suffer
or cause or procure to be made done leveyed executed and suffered / all and every such further or other lawful and
reasonable Act or Acts Thing or Things Deeds Conveyances or Assurances in the Law whatsoever for the further better
and more perfect Conveying and assuring / of all and singular the said Premises with their Appurtenances unto the
said Gerard Raws his Heirs and Assigns as by the said Gerard Raws his Heirs and Assigns or his or their Counsel
learned in / the Law shall be reasonably drawn devised or advised or required. In Witness whereof the said

The Court Leet and View of Frankpledge of our Sovereign Lord the King with the / Court Baron and Customary Court of Edward Hasell, Esq. Lord of the said Manor holden at / the house of Thomas Holme in Bampton Grange in & for the said Manor on Thursday the / seventeenth Day of April in the year of our Lord 1777 before William Dixon / Gentleman, Steward of the said Court. At this Court came Jarrett Rawes and / took of the said Lords before their said Steward / a Messuage & Tenement situate lying and / being in Swindale late Greaves's part of / Curwen's Lands with the appurtenances within / the said Manor late in the tenure of the said / Jarrett Rawes at the yearly fineable Rent / of Nineteen Shillings & One penny & other dues / duties & Services and now in the hands of the / said Lords to be demised after the death of / Edward Hasell Esquire the last General / Demitting Lord of the said Manor. The Court Baron and General Court of Dimissions / of the Right Honourable WILLIAM EARL OF LONSDALE, Lord of the said Manor held at the House of / AGNES WILKINSON in BAMPTON GRANGE, for the said Manor, on thursday the Twenty eight Day of July, One / Thousand Eight Hundred and Eight, BEFORE JOHN RICHARDSON, Esquire, Steward and Commissioner for / assessing the general Fines upon the several and respective Customary Tenants of the said Manor, which are due from them to the said / William Earl of Lonsdale, on the Death of Timothy Featherstonehaugh, Esquire, the Survivor of the last general admitting Lords / of the said Manor, for the several and respective Customary Tenements within the same, according to the Custom of the said Manor.
