ROBERT RAWES THE YOUNGER 1771-1848

Annuity concerning the Chapelry of Swindale, Shap dated 1806. Carlisle Record Office, D/Lons/L5/1/Shap/527-531. (Greenhow Line)
[Annuity in Chapelry of Swindale, Westmorland.]
We the inhabitants within the Chapelry of / Swindale do unanimously agree, should it be / his Lordship's kind Intention to restore the / Arrears and ancient annuity, that the whole / should be appropriated for the future Benefit / of the School here, in such Manner as his Lord / ship may think most agreeable to himself.

If the payment of a small annual Interest / for the accumulated Sum & the Apportionment / of a new Trust should seem right to his Lord / ship, it would prove ultimately beneficial to us / and meet our entire Approbation - Moreover, / we deem this the likeliest way to avoid confusion / which would otherwise ensue on account of different / Claimants - none of whom we think can be justly / entitled to any share of the Arrears but Mr Cooper.
