In the name of God amen / I James Rawes Clerk Batchelor in Divinity and Vicar / of Chedworth in the County and
Diocese of Gloucester being of / sound mind memory and understanding and considering the / certainty of Death and
uncertainty of the time thereof / do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in / manner and form
following that is to say first I will and / desire that all my just Debts and ffuneral expences shall be / paid as
soon as may be after my decease by my Executrix / hereinafter named. I give and bequeath to the poor of the /
parish of Chedworth aforesaid the sum of five pounds to / be distributed at the discretion of my said executrix. I
give and / bequeath to my Brother John Rawes all my wearing / apparel as well Linnen as Woollen. I give and
bequeath / to my two Trustees hereinafter named the sum of ten / pounds each in case they act in the trusts hereby
in them / reposed. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Susannah / Rawes all my plate Linen household goods
and ffurniture / also such of my Books and as many as she shall choose and / also the sum of one hundred pounds
which sum of one / hundred pounds is to be paid immediatley after my decease

and all the rest and residue of my Personal Estate consisting / of Bank stock and stock in the three per cent
reduced Bank / Annuities and of whatsoever sort or kind it it may I give / and bequeath unto my trusty ffriends
John Allen Clerk, Master of Arts of Northleach in the County of Gloucester and / to Joseph Cleveland of
Cirencester in the said County of Gloucester / their Executors administrators and assigns In / trust to lay out
the money arising from that part of my said / Personal Estate which at the time of my Decease shall not / consist
of Bank stock and of stock in the three per cent Bank / reduced annuities in the purchase of Stock in the said
three / per cent Bank of reduced anniuties and invest the same in / their names and when the same is so laid out
and invested / it is my will and desire that my said Masters their Executors / administrators and assigns do stand
possessed as well of such / stock as aforesaid which I shall be possessed of at the time of / my Decease as also
that which is to be purchased by my said / Trustees pursuant to the directions of this my Will upon the Trusts and
for the ends intents and purposes hereinafter / mentioned that is to say. In trust to pay or permit and suffer /
my sister Mary Robinson and her assigns to receive and take / the sum of ten pounds a year by equal half yearly /
payments but of the Dividends or Interest of all the said / stocks as the same shall become due and payable during
the / joint lives of my wife and sister and from and after / payment thereof In trust to pay or permit and suffer
my said wife and her assigns to receive and take the Dividends / or Interest of all the said stocks for and during
the term of / her natural life and from and after the decease of my / said wife In trust by sale of sufficient
part of the said / stocks to raise and pay the sums of thirty pounds to each of / my nephews James Rawes and
Christopher Rawes sons of / my late Brother Gerard Rawes of Lancaster provided they / are then living but not
otherwise and from and after the / decease of my said wife and the payment of the said sums / of thirty pounds to
each of my said nephews in case the / same shall become payable the as for and receiving / one moiety of the
Residue of the said stocks in trust to / assign and transfer the same unto my said sister Mary / Robinson if she
be then living but in case she be then / dead then in trust to assign and transfer the said moiety / unto the
child or children of my said sister Mary Robinson / as shall be living at the time of the decease of my said wife
/ equally between or amongst them if more than one and in / case there shall be no such child or children then
living then / in trust to assign and transfer the said moiety to the Executors / administrators and assigns of my
said sister. And for and / concerning the other moiety of the Residue of the said stocks / after my said wife's
decease and the payment of the said / sume of thirty pounds to each of my said nephews in / case the same shall
become payable in trust to assign / and transfer the same unto my said Brother John Rawes if

he be then living but in case he be then dead then in trust / to assign and transfer the said moiety unto the
said child or / children of my said Brother John Rawes as shall be living / at the time of the decease of my said
wife equally between / or amongst them if more than one and in trust there shall / be no such child or children
than living then in trust to assign / and transfer the said moiety unto the Executors administrators / and assigns
of my said Brother and I do hereby constitute and / appoint my said wife sole Executrix of this my Will and also
direct that my said Trustees shall each of them be / answerable for his and their own acts and Receipts one[?] /
and not the one for the other of them or for any more money / than they shall respectively actually receive and
also that they / shall amy deduct and retain out of the said Trust Monies / in them respectively vested by this my
Will all such Costs Charges / Damages and Expences which they shall severally sustain or / expend in the execution
of all or any ot the Trusts hereby in / them reposed and lastly I do hereby revoke every other Will by / me
heretofore made In witness whereof I the said James Rawes / the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament
contained / in two sheets of paper to the first sheet subscribed my hand / and to the last sheet subscribed and
set my hand and seal / this twenty third day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty

his last Will and Testament / before us who in his presence at his request and in the presence / of each other
have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto / John Cleveland of Chedworth John Clarke of Yanworth.
This Will was proved at London the twentieth / day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven / hundred
and eighty five before the Right Worshipful Peter / Calvert[?] Doctor of Law Master Keeper or Commissary of / the
Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted / by the Oath of Susanna otherwise Susannah Rawes widow / the
relict of the deceased and sole Executrix named in the / said Will to whom administration was granted of allaus[?]
