This is the last Will and Testament of me / John Rawes of Woodfoot in the parish of Crosby Ravensworth, / in the County of Westmorland, Yeoman. as follows. I direct / all my just debts funeral and Testamentary Expences / to be fully paid and satisfied by my Executor hereinafter / named. I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Mary / Rawes for and during the term of her natural life / all that my freehold messuage or dwelling house / situate at Woodfoot aforesaid with the appurtenances / and immediately after her decease I give and devise / the same unto and to the use of my dear wife's / nephew James Dover? his heirs and assigns for ever / I also give and bequeath unto my said wife / absolutely all the household furniture Beds and / Bedding Plate China Glass linen Pictures fuel / and housekeeping provisions of which I shall / be possessed at the time of my decease And I likewise / give and bequeath unto my said dear wife Mary / Rawes and her assigns during the term of her / natural life one annuity or clear yearly rent charge / of thirty five pounds sterling and to my sister Jane / Hodgson widow and her assigns during the term / of her natural life one annuity or clear yearly rent / charge of four pounds sterling to be respectively issuing / and payeable out of and charged and chargeable / upon my freehold and real Estate at Woodfoot / aforesaid hereinafter given and devised by this / my will and free from all deductions to be in / full satisfaction of all dower and thirds to which / she my said wife Mary Rawes may be entitled / by common law or by custom and to be paid

to them respectively by equal half yearly payments / with a proportional sum for any fractional part of a / year which may happen immediately to proceed the / determination of the said annuities or yearly rent / charges the first half yearly payments thereof to be made / respectively at the expiration of six calendar months / next after my decease and in case any half yearly / payment of the said annuities or yearly rent charges / of thirty five pounds and four pounds respectively / or any part thereof shall be unpaid for the space / fourteen days next after any of the said half yearly / days of payment then and so often as the same shall / happen it shall be lawful for and I hereby empower / my said wife and my said sister Jane Hodgson or / their assigns to recover the said annuities or yearly / rent charges together with all arrears and costs by / distress or by entry upon and receipt of the rents and profits / of all or any part of my said freehold and real Estate / and premises so hereby charged with the payment / thereof the possession under such entry to be without / impeachment of waste I give and bequeath unto / Thomas Rawes, Gerard Rawes, Mary Rawes and / William Rawes children of my late brothet Gerard / Rawes each the sum of fifteen pounds to be paid / to them respectively at the end of twelvr calendar / months next after my decease and I give and / bequeath to my nephews and nieces John Hodgson / Janet the wife of James Dent?, William Hodgson / and Elizabeth Hodgson sons and daughters of my / sister Jane Hodgson each the sum of fifteen / pounds to be paid to them respectively at the / end of twelve calendar months after the decease of / my said sister Jane Hodgson I give and bequeath / to my sister Mary Rawes and Isabella the wife / of William Holme each the sum of ten pounds / to be paid to them respectively at the end of twelve / months next after my decease which said respective / Legacies I hereby charge upon my said freehold

and real Estate and subject and chargeable as aforesaid / I give and devise all that my freehold Estate situate and / being at Woodfoot aforesaid not hereinafter disposed of / by my said Will with the rights and appurtenances / thereunto belonging and other my real Estate and / property whatsoever and wheresoever unto and to and / for the absolute use of the said James Dover his heirs / and assigns forever, and as to all my stock of cattle / and horses crop husbandry utensils money and / securities for money Debts and other my personal Estate / and effects of what nature or kind soever I give and / bequeath the same unto my said wife's nephew James / Dover absolutely and I hereby appoint the said James Dover executor of this my Will And lastly / I hereby revoke all wills codocils testamentary / dispositions and appointments whatsoever by / me at any time heretofore made and do declare / this to be my last and only Will and Testament / In witness whereof I the said John Rawes have to / this my last and only Will and Testament set / my hand this third day of December in the year / of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty / two. - John Rawes - Signed published / and declared by the above named John Rawes / the Testator as his last and only Will and Testament / in the presence of us, who in his presence, at his / request and in the presence of each other have / hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses / Fred: Moynes[?] - Chris Fairer[?]

This is a Codicil to the last Will and / Testament of one John Rawes of Woodfoot in the / Parish of Crosby Ravensworth in the County of / Westmorland Yeoman made and duly executed / in the form prescribed by Law and bearing date / the third day of December in the year one thousand

eight hundred and fifty two. Whereas by my said Will / I gave and bequeathed to my dear wife Mary Rawes / absolutley all the household Furniture Beds and Bedding / Plate china glass linen Pictures fuel and housekeeping / Provisions of which I shall be possessed at the time of my / decease Now I do hereby revoke the said gift and bequeast / to her my said wife and do hereby give and bequeath / such household foods and furniture Beds Bedding / Plate china glass linen Pictures fuel and housekeeping / provisions of which I shall be possessed at the time of / my decease unto my said wife Mary Rawes and her / assigns during the term of her natural life and / immediately after her decease I give and bequeath / the same unto my said wife's nephew James Dover / absolutely And whereas by my said Will I gave / and bequeathed to each of my nephews and nieces John / Hodgson Janet the wife of James Dent William Hodgson / and Elizabeth Hodgson sons and daughters of my sister / Jane Hodgson, widow the sum of fifteen pounds Now / I do hereby also revoke the said legacies and do give / and bequeath unto the said John Hodgson Janet the wife of James Dent, William Hodgson and Elizabeth Hodgson / in lieu thereof each the sum of nineteen pounds and / nineteen shillings electing to be paid to them respectively / at the end of twelve calendar months next after the / decease of my said sister Jane Hodgson and I do / hereby ratify and confirm my said Will in every other / respect.
