I Miss Elizabeth / Blackburn Rawes residing at / number Thirty one Mellville Street Portobello / being desirous to provide for the management / and disposal of my moveable estate after / my death Do hereby make constitute and / appoint John Balfour Doctor of / Medicine Portobello and James Gibson Agent of the / Commercial Bank of Scotland Limited Mus / selburgh to be my sole Executors and / Administrators with full power to them / to intromit with my whole moveable estate / and excentry of every description to give up / Inventories thereof and to confirm the same / and generally to do everything in the / premises competent to the office of Executor / nominate Declaring always that the said / John Balfour and James Gibson shall be / accountable to the Residuary Legatees herein / after named for their intromissions in / virtue hereof after payment of all my / lawful debts deathbed and funeral charges / the necessary expenses to be laid out / in confirming and recovering my said / estate and excentry and the Legatees herein / after appointed to be paid And I / ordain my said Executors to pay the / following Legacies at the first term of / Whitsunday or Michaelmas happening after / my death and of the readiest of my / means and estate falling under this / Testament vizt (First) To The Roman Catholic / Church in Portobello the sum of Two / hundred and fifty pounds sterling (Second) / To The Very Reverend John Smith Canon / in Saint Marys Roman Catholic Church / Stirling as a slight consideration for / the great interest he has taken in my / family for many years the sum of / One hundred pounds sterling (Third) To the / said John Balfour in consideration of the / kind attention he has paid to me for / some years as my Medical attendant / the sum of Fifty pounds sterling (Fourth) / To the said James Gibson in consideration / of his having transacted all my business / and money matters for me for many / years without remuneration the sum of / Fifty pounds sterling (Fifth) To Agnes Hall / Wife of George Hall Portobello who was a / domestic servant with me for five years / the sum of One hundred and fifty pounds / sterling but declaring that the said Legacy / shall be paid to her exclusive of the / jus mariti of her said husband and / that the said Agnes Halls' receipt thereof / by herself alone shall be a sufficient / discharge to my said Executors (Sixth) To / Charlotte Wilson[Milson?] presently residing with me / in consideration of her faithful services / as a domestic servant to me for / seven years the sum of One hundred and / fifty pounds sterling (Seventh) To the Treasurer / of the Edingburgh Royal Infirmary for / behoof of the said Infirmary the free / sum of One hundred pounds sterling (Eighth) / To the Provost of Portobello for the time / being for behoof of the Poor of Portobello / the free sum of Twenty pounds sterling / which sum shall be distributed among / the poor in Portobello in such manner / as the said Provost shall think proper / And before proceeding to dispose of the / Residue of my means and estate I / wish to record that I have left and / intend to leave nothing to any of / my relatives on account of the neglect / they have shown me during my lifetime / And with regard to the Residue and / Remainder of my means and estate / falling under this Testament I direct / and ordain my said Executors to divide / the same into four equal parts or / shares and to pay one of said / fourth parts or shares to the said / Roman Catholic church in Portobello: to / pay another of the said fourth parts / or shares to the said Very Reverend / Canon John Smith: to pay another of / said one fourth parts or shares to the / said John Balfour and to pay the / remaing one fourth part or share / to the said James Gibson; Brown Inventory of the Personal Estate wheresoever situated of Miss Elizabeth Blackburn Rawes who resided at number thirty one Melville Street, Portobello who died at Callander on the twenty fourth day of April eighteen hundred and ninety.

Appeared James Gibson, Agent, Commercial Bank of Scotland, Limited, Musselburgh one of he Executors of the deceased Miss Elizabeth Blackburn Rawes who resided at number thirty one Melville Street, Portobello who being solemnly sworn and examined depones that the said Elizabeth Blackburn Rawes died at Callander domiciled in Scotland upon the twenty fourth day of April eighteen hundred and ninety That the deponent has entered upon the possession and management of the deceased’s estateas Executor nominated by her along with John Hutton Balfour, Doctor of Medicine, Portobello (named

In the Trust Disposition and Settlement after mentioned John Balfour) in Trust Disposition and Settlement dated the twenty second and recorded in the Books of Council and Session at Edinburgh the twenty ninth, both days of April eighteen hundred and ninety an extract whereof is now exhibited and signed by the deponent and the said Justice of the Peace as relative hereto. That the deponent does not know of any Testamentary Settlement or Writing relative to the disposal of the deceased’s personal estate or effects or any part thereof other than the said Trust Disposition and Settlement. That the foregoing Inventory signed by the said deponent and the Justice of the Peace is a full and complete Inventory of the said deceased’s

Personal estate and effects wheresoever situated belonging and due to her beneficially at the time of her death in so far as same has come to the deponents knowledge. That the said deceased had her heritable estate in this Country in so far as is kown to the deponent. That the said deceased Elizabeth Blackburn Rawes was due and owing at the time of her death to persons resident in the United Kingdom the debts enumerated in the foregoing Schedule. That these debts are payable by law out of the estate and effects comprised in the foregoing Inventory are nor any of them voluntary debts made payable on the death of the deceased or voluntary debts payable under some Instrument delivered to the donee thereof with in three months

Before the death of the said deceased or debts which are primarily payable out of any real estate belonging to the said deceased, or debts in respect whereof a reimbursement is capable of being reclaimed from any real estate of the said deceased or from any other estate or person whatsoever. That these debts with the funeral expenses of the said deceased as also shown in the said Schedule amount to Three hundred and forty eight pounds 41/5 sterling. That the nett value at the date of the said personal estate and effects situated in Scotland including the proceeds accrued thereon down to this date and after deducting the amount of the said debts and funeral expenses is Two thousand five hundred sterling

and does not exceed Two thousand Six hundred pounds sterling. That confirmation of the said personal estate is required in favour of the deponent and the said John Hutton Balfour all which is truth as the deponent shall answer to God.
