[Page 1] This is the last Will and Testament / of me Francis / Russell Rawes of Greenside Budletts / Maresfield near Uckfield in the County / of Sussex Master of Arts and Clerk in / Holy Orders. I appoint Edward Hebdon of Number / 2, Garlinge Road, Cricklewood London / Edwin George Broughton of "Dunedin" / Number 42, Godstone Road Purley in / the County of Surrey and Edward Gordon / Bretherton of Number 2, The Priory / Tunbridge Wells in the County of Kent / Solicator to be the Executors and Trusties / of this my Will and Trustees for all / the purposes of the Conveyancing settled / Land and Trustee Acts for the time / being in force And I declare that the / said Edward Gordon Bretherton or any / other Executor or Trustee may be employed / and paid for any work done by him or / his firm in his profession as a Solicitor / in respect of anything relating to the / proving of this my Will and the execution / of the Trusts thereof. I wish to be buried in the Churchyard / of the Parish in which I happen to die / and according to the Rites of the / Established Church of England or if / such Churchyard be closed therein the / nearest Cemetery. I give the following legacies namely:- / to my wife Ellen Rawes the following / articles namely:- The service Pistol & / Binoculars Compass and Regimental
[Page 2] To my daughter Gwendoline Violet / Clarke: My Grandfather's writing desk / with secret draw my two cameras and / other photographic apparatus and my / medicine cabinet My copy of "The Book / of the Rose" and all other books about / the Rose "The Gardens of England" "The / Cottage Homes of England" "The Book / on Birds" and all my books on gardening. / To my son Francis Arthur Montague / Rawes requesting him to preserve the / same during his lifetime and to leave / the same by a Will to the eldest / daughter of mine who shall survive / him The Oak Paper Cabinet presented / to me by the Parishioners of Cousley / Wood Wadhurst and the double ink / stand with silver tray presented to me / by the Maidstone Parishioners My / Father's gold watch and cable chain / All silver articles marked with a crest / of a Greyhound on a Crown The Rawes / Crest stamp General Gordon's bust / paper weight in bronze my match tray / representing Girl and Well and my Brother's / key box The kneehole mahogany writing / table with eight drawers and the Military / travelling chest in two parts that / belonged to my Brother My two hundred / Gaius College Cambridge sports cup my / glass bottomed Pewter Pot and my / Biscuit Bucket which I used at Cambridge / Provided always that if my said son / Francis Arthur Montague Rawes shall / predecease me then I give and bequeath / the articles hereinbefore bequeathed to him
[Page 4] To my daughter Irene my books on / British Israel my Dresden clock / candlesticks and other Dresden ornaments / of whatever description. To my daughter Elsie my other / binoculars my "Swiss Cottage" and any / ornaments not hereinbefore mentioned. To my daughter Phyllis all my books / by or about Charles Dickens four / volumes of "The Land we live in" four / volumes of "Wonders of Land and Sea" / "The Amateur Mechanic" "The Aquarium" / and "Arabian Nights". To my grandson Donald May all / my books of whatever description on / Electricity and Botany and all my tools. And whereas I am entitled to a certain / share or shares of a trust fund called / the "Reverend W. F. and H. Rawes / Marriage Settlement Trust Fund" / upon which notice of a mortgage of / Seven hundred pounds and interest / was purported to have been given to / the Trustees thereof namely the Public / Trustee and myself but doubts have / been raised as to the validity of the / said mortgage Now I hereby direct / declare and appoint that all my / said share or shares in the said / settlement Trust Fund either subject / to such mortgage or freed therefrom / either by payment off or by / rectification or cancellation of the / said purported charge of seven / hundred pounds shall be paid or
[Page 5] I commit the said Ellen Rawes to the / care of all my children as circumstances / have presented me from making any / further provision for her myself owing / to legal appointments which necessity / has caused me to make being sure that / they will look after and provide for her / comforts during her lifetime.
