3/ Jane Rawes of ffawcett forrest in ye County of Westmrland
4/ spinter being of perfect Memory and Rememberance
5/ praised be god; doe make and ordayn this my last will
6/ and testament; in manner and form following:

8/ ffirst I bequeath my soull in to ye hands of Almight God my
9/ maker; hoping that through the Moritorious Death and passion
10/ of Jesus Christ my only saviour and Redeemer to receive free
11/ pardon and forgivenss of all my sins and as for any body to be buried
12/ in Christian Buriall according to ye discretion of my executrix

The Condition of this Obligation is such that if Margt Noble
above bounden
doe well and truely Content,
and pay, or Cause to be well and truly contented and paid unto
Robert Agurt[?] Margarett & Sarah Noble natural and lawful Children of Margarett Noble Exetrixe
of the last will and testement of late
deceased all such filial
and Childs Parts and Portions, Guifts Grants Legacies, and Bequests, Summe
and Sumes of money and all other Rights, Does and Demands whatsoever,
due unto them by the death Will and Inventorie of their said Aunt
deceased or otherwise lawfully demand the same and in the mean season
do well and honesty educate and bring them up, with Meat, Drink,
Cloths and all other becessaries during their Minority, And make a
true and just account of the Premisses when shee shall be thereunto
lawfully called. And (if need require) enter into such further bond with
more sufficient Sureties for performance of the Premisses, as the
abovenamed Commissarie of the said Arch-Deaconrie for the time being or
his Successor shall think meet and requisit And Lastly, do save defend and
harmlesse keep the above-named Bishop of Chester his Commissarie and all
other his Officers and Ministers against all persons by reason of the Pre-
misses, That then this present Obligation to be void and of none effect, or
else to stand and be in full powers force and vertue.

The Condition of this obligation is such ye if the above bounden
Margrett Noble doe
well & truely execute --forme[?] fullfill & keepe the Last will
& testament of Jane Rawes late of ffawcett fforrest
hereof[?] viz-[?] do: pay or satisfie all debts childrens
portions & all other legacies according to the tener of the sd Will
soe farr as the law bindes & doe exhibitt into Court A true and
pfect Inventory of all & singular the goods & rights of the sd
deceased & doe give the Court a true & pfect attempt[?] of the
prmisses when shee shall bee thereunto lawfully caled[?] & shall from time to time & att all times hereafter well and
sufficiently save defend & keepe harmless & indemnified ye sd
Commissary & all his officers touching the promisses & shall give
further & better security to the sd Commissary when shee
shall be thereunto Lawfully called Then this obligation to be
voyd otherwise inforce.

  2. Rossell = Rossil Bridge Farm, Whinfell.
  3. George Archer paid the Hearth tax in Kirkland in 1671.
  4. Elizabeth Rawes as a relative of Mary Bennon.
  5. Gerard Rawes of Stramongate, Kendal paid the Hearth tax on 12th Jan 1674 and was buried 4th Apr 1694. Jennett was buried 2nd Aug 1704. He was baprised 5th Nov 1627, son of Richard Rawes
  6. Robert Stephenson, born 1618, was the son of Allen Stephenson, Yeoman of Skelsmergh who was bur 21st Feb 1632.
  7. John Washington of Penrith was buried 8th Jul 1713.
  8. Jane Rawes his housekeeper is almost certainly Jane Rawes, bap 16 Aug 1629, daughter of Gerard Rawes of Fawcett Forrest. She died a spinster at Fawcett Forrest in 1685.
