This is the last Will and Testament of me The
Reverend John Raws of Burnley in the County of Lancaster Clerk
I give and devise unto my Friends James Hargreaves of Bank Hall
and John Hargreaves of Olmerod House in the County of Lancaster
Esquires All those my eight several Cottages or Dwellinghouses situate
and being in Burnley aforesaid four whereof are fronting to Mill
Street and the other four thereof to Park Street and all adjoining to
each other and built by me upon certain plots or parcels of land
Copyhold of the Manor of Ightenhill and part thereof Leasehold and
part of Inheritance purchased by me from Mr Robert Munn
together with all and every the rights members and appurtenances
thereto belonging To hold to them the said James Hargreaves and
John Hargreaves their heirs executors administrators and assigns
according to the nature and quality thereof respectively Upon the Trusts
and for the purposes following that is to say As to one of the said
Cottages namely that in the occupation of Thomas Huscroft
In trust for my niece Mary Hutton now living with me her
heirs executors administrators and assigns according to the nature
or quality thereof And as to the rest and residual of the said
Cottages In Trust for my sister Elizabeth Raws for and during
the term of her natural life and from and immediately after her
decease In Trust for John Raws Robert Raws and Mary Raws
otherwise Mary Jackson the three illegitimate Children of Ann Raws
illegitimate Daughter of the said Elizabeth Raws and afterwards the
Wife of John Jackson but now deceased And to the heirs executors
administrators and assigns of the said John Raws Robert Raws
and Mary Raws otherwise Mary Jackson for ever according to the
nature and quality thereof as Tenants in Common and not as joint
Tenants But if any one or more of them the said John Raws Robert
Raws and Mary Raws otherwise Mary Jackson should happen to
depart this life without leaving lawful Issue and without making
any effectual disposition of his her or their part share or interest of
and in the said Cottages and Premises Then I give and devise the
part or share parts or shares of him her or them so dying unto the
Survivors or Survivor of them the said John Raws Robert Raws and
Mary Raws otherwise Mary Jackson and to the heirs executors
administrators and assigns of such Survivors or Survivor
respectively as Tenants in Common And if all of them the
said John Raws Robert Raws and Mary Raws otherwise Mary

Jackson should happen so to die without leaving lawful issue
and without making any effectual disposition thereof Then I do
give and devise all the rest and residue of the said eight several
Cottages or Dwellinghouses unto and in trust for my niece Margaret
Hutton and to their respective heirs executors administrators and
assigns as Tenants in Common according to the nature and
quality thereof And as to all the rest residue and remainder
of my messuages lands cottages buildings and hereditaments whatsoever
and wheresoever and whether Freehold Copyhold or Leasehold And also
as to all and singular my money securities for money goods
chattels credits personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever
and of that nature kind or quality soever subject nevertheless to the
payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses I do
hereby give devise and bequeath the same and every part thereof
respectively unto and to the use of my said Nieces Margaret the
Wife of William Camel and Mary Hutton and to their several and
respective heirs executors administrators and assigns absolutely for
ever according to the nature and quality thereof and as Tenants in
Common and not as joint Tenants Provided nevertheless and it
is my Will and mind and I do hereby direct that the
several gifts and devises hereby made to or in favor of my
said niece Margaret the Wife of William Camel are intended
and shall be for her sole and absolute use independent of
her said Husband and shall not be liable to his debts
control or engagements but that her receipt alone under
her hand or by her order notwithstanding her Coverture
shall be a good and effectual discharge for all monies or
property to which she may become entitled by virtue of
this my Will as well to my executors hereafter named
as to all others And I do hereby appoint the said James
Hargreaves and John Hargreaves and my said Niece
Mary Hutton joint executors and executrix in trust of
this my Will and hereby revoking all former and other

Will and Wills by me at anytime heretofore made I do hereby
declare this to be my last Will In Witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of
February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and twenty eight.

hios request in his presence and in the presence of
each other have hereunto subscribed our names
as Witnesses thereto

[Codicil]
I the above named Testator John Raws do hereby declare this present
writing to be a Codicil to my Will above written and desire that the
same may be added thereto and taken as part thereof In addition to the
Cottage in the occupation of Thomas Huscroft given to or in Trust for my Niece
Mary Hutton in and by my said Will I do hereby also give devise and
bequeath to her the back Kitchen lately built and now added to and occupied
with the said Cottage together with all other the appurtenances to the said Cottage
belonging To hold to her my said Niece Mary Hutton her heirs executors
administrators an d assigns as in my said Will is mentioned subject
nevertheless to her my said Niece paying unto Peregrine Edward Towneley
Esquire and his heir a fair proportion of the Ground rent payable in respect of
the said Cottage and Premises and the seven other Cottages and Premises in my
said Will mentioned An with respect to the rents and profits of the said
seven other Cottages in my said Will mentioned during the minority or
respective minorities of the party or parties to whom or in trust for
whom the same are devised in and by my said Will I do hereby
authorise and empower my Trustees in my said Will named to pay
and apply the rents and profits of the said seven Cottages and
Premises equally unto John Raws Robert Raws and Mary Raws
otherwise Mary Jackson the Devices thereof in my said Will
named during their respective minorities for and towards their
maintenance education and bringing up in such manner as
they or he my said Trustees shall think fit And in all
other respects I do hereby confirm and establish my said Will

The Will of

The ninth day of August 1834
Mary Hutton the Executrix in the Will, with a Codicil named as
sworn in common form (John Hargreaves and James Hargreaves the
Executors therein also named having both of them departed this life) and
do further made oath that the personal estate and effects of the
Testator within the Diocese of Chester were under the value of £2000
before me Jno Thos Wood Surragate

The Testator died on the ninth day of April 1834.
