01/ In the name of God amen the xxviith daye of maye in the yeare of our Lord God 1597 I John Rawes of
02/ Appelwhat [modern spelling is applethwaite] in the countye of Westmrland sore vexed wyth secknes and fearyng the payne of death and
03/ as yet god be praysed in good and pfytt [perfect] remeberance make this to be my testament & last wyll
04/ in maner and fourme folowyng ffirst I geve and bequeayth my soull in to the mercifull hands of All
05/ mygythe [almighty] god trysteyng in hym that my soulle shalbe saved // And I wyll that my bodye to be buried[?] in
06/ my p[ar]ish churchyard of Wynander [Windermere] my payeing my debts for the same; // Itm I wyll that Annes[?] my wyf have
